Two hearts in love can survive any length of time or distance standing between them.
With the love and support of their friends and family, Caitlin and Craig tied the knot at Jay Verno Studios in South Side on Saturday, May 18, 2019.
Caitlin Cannon and Craig Miller both attended Penn State University and had several mutual friends, but never crossed paths until after college. They believe that God brought them together at the perfect time. After two years of long distance dating, they finally had the chance to settle down in the same city.
They moved into their first place together in Cleveland, OH and adopted their dog, Gouda. Eventually, work led them both to Richmond, Virginia where they lived for about eight months before another move to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania just ahead of their wedding day. They realized that if they could make it through all of the changes life had thrown at them in the early years of their relationship, they’d be able to get through anything!
When Caitlin reached out to book her wedding film package, she was living in Virginia. We talked on the phone a couple of times before her wedding day, but we didn’t have a chance to get together until the day of her rehearsal. My heart felt drawn to her and Craig the instant we met. I recognized several similarities between their relationship and mine with my fiance Alex.
When their wedding day finally arrived, I woke up in my happy place! I could tell from our phone calls and just one meeting that their love story would be a breeze to capture on film. I arrived early at Jay Verno to capture the precious moments leading up to the ceremony.
As the girls finished up their hair and make up, the time came to have Craig read his letter from Cait. The sincerity in his voice blew me away! His eyes filled with tears as he read aloud and I knew then how much he truly loved his soon to be wife.
We stole Caitlin away from her bridesmaids and led her to a quiet room to open her letter from Craig. Emotion streamed from her being as she read his words aloud. As my eyes filled with tears, I knew just how lucky I was to be there witnessing a moment so special.
She wiped her watery eyes and prepared to step into her wedding dress. I couldn’t help but smile as she tied the cutest, glittery Kate Spade Keds to wear beneath her gorgeous white dress. I wanted to borrow the entire ensemble for my own wedding next year!
Once she was dressed and ready, the photographers and I placed Craig outside and positioned him away from the door. Cait approached from behind and made her way to Craig before he turned around to see her. I could have fallen over when they finally locked eyes! “First looks” are always adorable, but this one tops the charts as my favorite! The soon to be newlyweds spent a few minutes enjoying some quality alone time together before they were joined by the rest of the gang.
We adventured around the city for photos with their bridal party before heading back to Jay Verno. During our stop at the point, we spotted a Steeler fan! The guys asked if he’d join them for a photo and laughed as they realized he was wearing a Heath Miller jersey. Mr. and Mrs. Miller couldn’t miss this photo op! While they posed with their new friend, the groomsmen pointed our that this guy also happened to be wearing a Fox hat. Crazy enough, Craig’s nickname is “Fawx!” What are the chances?!
I grabbed a few more shots and ran back to my car where I parked illegally with my flashes on hoping not to be towed before the wedding! The bridal party followed behind shortly after and returned to the studio for the ceremony.
Guests filed in and waited anxiously to witness Caitlin and Craig exchange vows and rings. I loved that Cait’s uncle officiated the ceremony. They sealed the deal with a kiss and signed their marriage license to make it official! The room filled with so much joy and excitement!
During cocktail hour, Jay Verno staff quickly flipped the room into a gorgeous reception space. The excitement erupted again when the bride and groom made their grand entrance, cut the cake and shared a first dance.
As they took their seats for dinner, Craig’s brother greeted the guests, led a Penn State chant and had the crowd cracking up as he kicked off the toasts. Caitlin’s sister, her best friend and her father also said a few words to congratulate the newlyweds. It was easy to see the love and admiration for Cait and Craig!
After dinner, Cait’s dad joined her on the dance floor for a traditional Father-Daughter dance. Craig and his mom danced together afterwards to “I hope you dance” by Lee Ann Womack. I began to cry as I filmed because it’s also my mom’s song to me.
Although I’d just met Caitlin and Craig, so many moments during their wedding day made me emotional. I was so happy to find that they agreed we had to keep in touch!
Thank you, Caitlin and Craig for inviting me to be apart of your amazing celebration! I’m so happy for you both and can’t wait to get together for lots of hikes, dinners and drinks around the city! This is just the start of a life long friendship.
I hope you’re feeling at home in Pittsburgh! Please stay awhile.
