Shannon created this video and many others like it for The Pittsburgh Promise, a non-profit organization with a mission to send city kids to college.
The promise envisions a future where “all our urban youth are equipped to reach post-secondary success, our public schools serve all children excellently, our city is flourishing in all its neighborhoods, and our workforce is widely diverse and highly skilled to advance a region that is good and just for all.”
The Promise is close to Shannon’s heart as she herself received a scholarship to attend the University of her choice. She’s been working closely with the Promise as a freelance photographer and videographer since 2016.

Shannon traveled to Costa Rica to document a women’s retreat created by Ana Badila—a microdosing guru who’s dedicated her life to “healing others through the power of psychedelics, play, embodiment practices and ancient psycho-technologies such as mindful meditation and Socratic inquiry.”

Hi, I’m Shannon!

I founded my very first business, Shannon Chavez Production in 2016 shooting wedding films with a simple goal: to tell positively uplifting stories. My dream has evolved since then, but it’s still pretty simple:
I aspire to spread love.
I find I feel most creative and aligned with my life’s purpose when I’m pursuing my passions, chasing my curiosities, learning new things, and giving back to my community.
It also helps to be surrounded by people who inspire me! There’s nothing that lights me up like connecting with creatives and working with purpose-driven individuals toward a shared goal.
Whether you know me as your videographer, your photographer, your coach, your airbnb host, or your friend, you’ll find that I’m always open to connecting on a deeper level!
I’m passionate about community and owe my successes in life to the people who’ve so willingly supported me along the way.
wondering how i got here?
Way back in 2010, I graduated from Pittsburgh CAPA 6-12~a school for the performing arts where I studied piano, dance, and theater!
I went on to receive my bachelors degree from Duquesne University in 2014 with a specialization in Broadcast Journalism.
Thanks to my internships with Duquesne’s athletic department, the Pittsburgh Penguins NHL Hockey Team and KDKA-TV News, I developed the skills to land an on-air job right out of college.
I spent the next two years in small-town West Virginia working as the morning anchor, reporter, and producer for a local TV news station.
I quickly realized that my “Dream Job” wasn’t quite as glamorous or fulfilling as I’d imagined, so in March of 2016, I took a leap of faith and moved home to Pittsburgh with a desire to find more joy and purpose in my life’s work.
I spent a year living in my moms attic, bartending at my favorite local pub and nannying cute kiddos while I recovered from two exhausting years of 60 hour work weeks on the night shift.
With the extra time and a new lease on life, I couldn’t help but document the magic I was seeing around me!!! I brought my camera everywhere and soon enough, people were hiring me to film and photography their milestones!
Since then, I’ve become what I like to call a “serial entrepreneur” and continue to discover new ways to earn a living doing things I love.
In 2020, I started a podcast and opened a photography studio which eventually became my first rental property. My husband Alex and I now run two AirBnBs and love hosting people in the Pittsburgh area!
In October 2022, I earned a double certification as a Spiritual Life Coach and Dharma (Soul Purpose) Coach from The Dharma Coaching Institute with a mission to help my clients on a deeper level!
